A native of Port Gibson, she graduated from Port Gibson High School as salutatorian, and attended Mississippi State College for Women, where she excelled English and Art. Mrs. Abercrombie was married to Dewey Earl Abercrombie from 1962 until his death in 2005. They lived and raised their family in Jackson where she was a member of Siwell Road Church of Christ.
