A short story about my father-in-law.
He loved his grandchildren, but he would not carry any of them around before they could sit up by themselves. He would only sit and hold them, and you had to put them in his arms.
Well one day I came over to visit after a job interview, and as I was getting my son JJ(4 weeks old) out of his car seat, my high heel got stuck in the seat belt, and I fell with JJ in my arms. My arms with JJ in them went up and my back and side hit the ground. Dean walked up took JJ out of my arms, as he walked away with him, he look back, and said "are you alright". I just layed there, watching him carrying my son. I was so amazed. He never was afraid to carry JJ anywhere after that day.

The following is from Amy Bowers, the 1st grandchild of Dean and Lois Girt. (June 2008)

Grandpa you always inspired me to be myself and do my best. I have taken that inspiration and passed it on to my 2 children. You have always been my hero, and I have always looked up to you. I will post a picture of your great grand babies on here for you to see them. I love you and miss you and hope that all is well with you and grandma. Please give each other a big hug for me. I think about you both all the time and only wish I could see you both one more time, and let you meet my family and what has become of me. I look back at life and realize that we can not take anything for granted and because of that I have gained a wonderful relationship with Mom and Poppa. I will love you forever.
