E. BOUDINOT COLT DROPS DEAD IN N.Y.

A FORMER LEADER IN BUSINESS AND SOCIETY OF PATERSON FOUND LIFELESS.

E. Boudinot Colt, a former prominent Patersonian and a member of the Board of Directors of the Equitable Assurance Society, died suddenly at the company's offices, No. 120 Broadway, New York, yesterday afternoon. Death was due to apoplexy. Mr. Colt attended a meeting of the directors yesterday, and to all appearances was in good health. He lingered about the offices after the meeting and left the director's room to go across the hall. The next the members heard was the sound of a falling body, and several men ran to Mr. Colt. He died almost immediately.

Mr. Colt was in his 76th year. He leaves a widow and three adult children, two sons and a daughter, all unmarried. Of recent years, he had lived a retired life. He attended the meetings of the directors infrequently.

He was born in Paterson, being the son of John Colt, a brother of Roswell Colt, who at one time owned the extensive tract of land in the heart of the city known as Colt's Hill.

For a number of years the deceased lived in New York and Summit and nine years ago he moved with his family to Newark. Mr. Colt graduated from Princeton more than fifty years ago. He was for many years governor of the Society for the Establishing Useful Manufacturers, founded by Alexander Hamilton, which controlled the water power of Paterson. The late Vice President Hobart succeeded him as governor of the society.

While a resident of Paterson, Mr. Colt lived in the mansion on Market street which afterward became the Hamilton House. He was one of the social leaders of the city.
