Margaret Long Kirby, 91, of 520 Chub Lake Street, Roxboro, died Monday, January 29, 2018 at her home. Born in Person County, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Quincy Shotwell Long. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William "Sweet William" Thomas Kirby, Jr.; four brothers: Talmadge Long, Thomas Long, Charles Long, and Flemmie Ray Long. Mrs. Kirby was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church.
Surviving are her three daughters: Diane Austin and husband, Bill Austin of Roxboro, Janice Garrett and husband, Dr. William E. Garrett of Bahama and Kim Kirby-Hazel and husband, Jay Hazel of Roxboro; eight grandchildren: Dr. Mark Austin, Paige Austin Bitter, David Garrett, Mikey Garrett, Jonathan Garrett, Caroline Hazel, Kirby Hazel, and Kenley Hazel; twelve great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 10-11 AM Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Roxboro Baptist Church and other times at the home of her daughter, Kim Kirby-Hazel (1221 Chub Lake Road, Roxboro).
Funeral service will be 11 AM Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Roxboro Baptist Church with the Dr. DuPre Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Garrett, Mikey Garrett, Jonathan Garrett, Dr. Mark Austin, Patrick Bitter, and Roger James. Honorary pallbearers will be Will Garrett, Cole Garrett, Bo Garrett, and Samuel Bitter.
