Capt. Christman was killed when his plane crashed on takeoff at Pratt AFF Base, Pratt, Kansas. Pratt AAF Base was the initial training facility for the secret B-29 Superfortress project beginning July 1943. Terribly unreliable and fraught with design and mechanical problems in its early days, the B-29 suffered numerous accidents. Capt. Christman and fifty one other servicemen paid the ultimate price during the B-29 project at Pratt AAF Base.
