Obituary for Mrs. Martha Belle Broadnax
Mother Martha Belle Broadnax (Punch) was born July 31, 1923
in Greeleyville, SC to proud parents, Reverend Jesse W. Easley and
Allie B. Bradshaw.
Martha received her formal education at Benedict College in
Columbia, SC and performed graduate work at North Carolina
Central University in Durham, where she received instruction under
the famous historian, the late John Hope Franklin.
Martha accepted Christ as her Savior at 12 years of age and was
united with Trinity Baptist Church in Greeleyville, SC.
Martha Belle Easley married the love of her life, Atty. John R.
Broadnax, on April 6, 1947 in Greeleyville, SC. Their union was
blessed with 5 children.
Martha was employed as a schoolteacher in Greeleyville, SC for
4 years. She was a giver, especially of herself, her love, and her time.
She enjoyed her family and could always be found watching and
encouraging their interests and pursuits in art, tennis, speed skating,
gymnastics, golf, and chess. Her penmanship was beautiful and she
loved to write letters to family, friends, and loved ones.
Martha is preceded in death by her son, John R. Broadnax, Ill.
She is survived by her loving husband, Atty. John R. Broadnax of
71 years; four children; Vicki Broadnax, Keith Broadnax, Charles
(Carol) Broadnax, and Dwain (Terri) Broadnax; 14 grandchildren,
1 great grandchild; sister's-in-law Elizabeth Young of Jacksonville,
FL, Dorothy Dyches of Charleston, SC, brother-in-law, William O.
Broadnax and loving family members, Molly Zillig of Whitefish Bay,
WI and Maggie Mueller of Madison, WI. Further survived by many
nieces, nephews, and other relatives and dear friends.
