US Congressman. He served in the United States House of Representatives from the 4th District of Illinois from January 3, 1987 to January 3, 1989. He graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1956 with a B.A. degree. He later served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1959. After leaving the military, he operated a steel warehouse business from 1959 to 1978. He served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1976 to 1986. In 1986, he ran, as a Republican, for a seat in the United States House of Representatives and was successful in the general election that year. He served one term in the House before losing his re-election bid to Democrat George E. Sangmeister in 1988. He later served as Assistant Secretary for Manpower, Readiness, and Resources in the Department of the Air Force from 1990 to 1992 and flew a combat mission over Iraq as part of that service. He was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal for that mission and readiness-resource allocation during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In the early to mid 2000s, he hosted a local radio show in Springfield, Illinois. He passed away after a long battle with dementia.
