Margaret was born to Edward and Joanna McDonald. In 1900, her family was farming in Grant Township, Republic County, Kansas. It was a large family--her mother told the census taker that she had given birth to eight children, and all eight were living.
The 1900 US Census lists:
Edward, 47, head, farmer, b. Oct. 1852, WI
Joanna , 43, wife, b. Jul., 1856, MI
Bertha M. 21, dau., school teacher, b. Aug., 1878, KS

Margaret McDonald married Orville Lester Bowersox. In 1910, the two were living in Wilsons Addition, Dallas, South Dakota. Orval was 26, and Margaret was 27. He was working as a bookkeeper for a bank.
While in South Dakota, Orville and Margaret were blessed with three children: Donald, Donna and June.
In 1920, the Bowersox family were living at 3901 Florence Boulevard, Omaha, Nebraska. Orville was a commercial traveller for oil burners. Donald was 9, and June was 5, and both children were in school.
Orville traveled so much that when in August, 1925 Margaret finally learned he was alive in California, he was served extradition papers for desertion.
By 1929, however, Margaret thought she was sadly widowed. She and her son Donald were living at 308 S. 38th, Omaha, Nebraska, and Donald was working as a salesman.
In 1940, Margaret, still widowed, was living alone at 1115 S. 28th St., in Omaha. She had been living at that house since at least 1935. She had completed one year of high school, and was working as a packer for a wholesale bakery.
Margaret Bowersox died in June, 1963. Her last residence was in Iowa, perhaps to be near one of her children.
She is buried in Westlawn-Hillcrest cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska.
