Russian Statesman. Belonging to the Russian nobility, he served as vice chancellor during the reign of Empress Elisabeth, and chancellor of the Empire with the Tsar Peter III. He led an Enlightenment policy that was later followed by Tsarina Catherine II of whom was an irreducible adversary. Vorontsov was one of the founders of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts. After the accession to the throne of the wife of Peter III following a coup d'etat, he was exonerated from his office.
