He was born about 1802 in Pasquotank County, North Carolina near Elizabeth City, son of Goshon Clark and Sarah "Sallie" Pritchard Clark. He died between the 1850 and 1860 Federal Census records, possibly c1855 in Fall Creek Twp., Madison County, Indiana, and it is believed following the death of his wife.

He married Tamer J. Davis about 1829, probably in North Carolina since the 1850 census shows the first child born in North Carolina. Cornelius and Tamer were parents of 8 known children: Mary Ann, Catherine, Goshen, Nancy, Harvey, Sarah, Martha Jane, Elizabeth.
