Fred received his law degree form the University of Illinois and was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1947. He was a flight instructor during World War II. In 1981, Fred retired from the the People's Bank of Bloomington, Illinois, where he was President and Chief Executive Officer. In 1961, Fred acquired Trail River Ranch, where he and his wife Betty Resided while in Grand Lake.
