Wallace James Jones, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

Born in Haywood County, he was the son of the late Willie Blaine and Lesa Whitmire Jones.

In addition his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Estella June Scates Jones, who died in 1988; a daughter, Dawn Arrington; a sister, Mildred Scott; and a brother, Wiley Jones.

Wallace was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and later retired from Champion Paper Company.

He was a former member of the Hazelwood Fire Department; a founding member of the Haywood County Rescue Squad; past Master of Waynesville Masonic Lodge 259 (Scottish and York Rite Mason); a three-term Hazelwood Alderman; and a volunteer for the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Wallace is survived by a son, Blaine Jones and his wife, Brenda, of Waynesville; a son-in-law, Phillip Arrington; five grandchildren, Crockett Jones (Sarah), Willie Jones, April Kegls (Ryan), Brandy Fralix (Jared) and Bryan Arrington (Katrina); and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Greg Cullen officiating followed by military rites.

Burial will be at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.

The care of Mr. Jones has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
