Funeral services for Mr. Sammy Abernathy were held on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at 2:00p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Jewett. Bro. James Engle officiated. Interment followed the service at Sardis Cemetery.
Mr. Abernathy passed away on Friday, June 4, 2010. Mr. Abernathy was born in Mt. Vernon on April 11, 1952, but grew up in Jewett. He lived most of his life in the Jewett area. Sammy was a master electrician and owned Construction Services Co. for 13 years. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and he really loved his ranch. Sammy was always willing to give and help people. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Jewett. He is survived by his wife, Jan Abernathy of Lake limestone; two sons, Shonn Rather & wife Lori & their children Kendell and Reagan of Thornton, and Jake Rather of Denver; a sister, Shirley Goldfield & husband Alan of Hickory Creek; a brother, Tom Abernathy of Flynn; five nephews, Max, Michael, Brian, Richard and Logan; his father-in-law, Arnold Parsons; his brothers-in-law, Donnie Parsons & wife Denise and their daughter Lindsay and Scott Parsons; and sisters-in-law, Sherill Brown and Peggy Rowell 7 husband Phil. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton & Odie Abernathy.
