Ruth Tieman, beloved Mother and Grandmother, passed away June 7, 2008, in Bellingham. She was 93. Ruth was born to Bert and Bertha Athearn on February 23, 1915, in Wickersham, WA. She had a wonderful childhood that she fondly told stories about until her passing. Ruth graduated from Mt. Baker High School and then from St. Joseph School of Nursing as an RN in 1936. In 1937 she married Buzz Tieman and together they enjoyed raising their family on a small farm. She loved nursing and the many patients she cared for during the 60 years of her nursing career. She passed her love of nursing onto her family, as 1 daughter, 3 granddaughters, and 1 great-granddaughter have followed her footsteps to become nurses. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rolland "Buzz" Tieman; infant daughter Sally; great-grandson Pepe Salas; 4 siblings: sister Alice Athearn and brothers Bob, Dave and Dodz Athearn. Ruth is survived by her children: sons Joe Tieman of Bellingham and Tony Tieman of Honolulu, HI; daughters Alice (Larry) Harvey and Ruth (Gary) Nelson of Bellingham; sister Juanita Gilmore; sisters-in-law Bonita (Bill)Waters and Freda Athearn; 8 grandchildren: Becky (Dave) Dillard, Lorrie (Joe) Collins, Carrie (Jim) Baumunk, Bill (Virginia) Harvey, Buzz Tieman, Crissy (Jim) Wiebert, Angie (Sean) Jeffrey, and Hans Nelson; 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Ruth was a past member of St. Xavier Auxiliary at St Joseph Hospital and Marietta Community Church. Her Christian faith was important to her all her days. She will be remembered and deeply missed by her family and friends for her grateful attitude, generosity, sense of humor, and unconditional love of others. Her family wishes to thank the staff at Alderwood for their loving care for her these past years. A Committal Service will be at Saxon Cemetery on Friday, June 13th, at 11:00 AM, with a Memorial Service following at 1:00 PM at Moles Bayview Chapel (Lakeway & Woburn).
