Ruth Ellen Ansell, age 89, of New Windsor, died Friday, February 9, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her family, following an extended illness.

Born May 15, 1928 in New Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Merton and Emma Fritz Blacksten. She was the wife of the late Stanley Lewis Ansell, who predeceased her in 1969.

Mrs. Ansell provided daycare out of her home for many years, as well as in-home care for the elderly. She enjoyed baking, cracking and picking out black walnuts, traveling, needlepoint and shopping at Walmart. She especially loved her cats and spending time with her family. She attended Edgewood Church of the Brethren.

Surviving are children, Steve Ansell of New Windsor, Brenda Carmona of Whittier, NC, Penny Strine and husband Drew of New Windsor, Peggy Ansell-Jenkins and husband Darryl of Martinsburg, WV, Terry Ansell and wife Maryann of New Windsor, Cindy Ansell-Painter and husband Ralph of Sharpsburg; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Frances Blacksten of Sharon, NC; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The last of her immediate family, she was predeceased by an infant brother, Donald Blacksten; brother, Howard Blacksten; and stepson, Charles Ansell.

The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, on Thursday, February 15 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 16 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Larry Steen officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg.
