Police Officer with the Aurora Colorado Police Department. Doug grew up in Aurora and attended Gateway High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Gulf War Veteran. He began serving as a police officer with the Glendale, Colorado, police department in 1998 and there he won a medal of valor for rescuing tenants in a devastating fire at the Spanish Gate apartment complex in 2003. He joined the Aurora police department three years ago. Doug lived by the motto, "duty, honor and integrity". He was also a practical joker, especially to his fellow officers. He is survived by his parents, Donald and Barbara Byrne, and a sister, Sharon (Todd) Gibson. Officer Bryne died in a traffic accident while on duty responding to a medical emergency.
