Cecil George Abrahams, passed away on Thursday around 4pm to go home and rest with the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at his home here in Quinton, NJ.


Cecil was 78. He was born in St. Ann Parish, Jamaica, West Indies. Cecil was the son of the late Ethel May Brown and Rallen Abrahams, husband of St. Ann Parish. Cecil's elementary education was in Jamaica, where he decided he would join the Army. After being Honorably Discharged, he came with a work crew from the West Indies to Florida, Wisconsin and New Jersey. When he moved to this area, Cecil was employed by Sea Brook for a short time. He became employed by the New Jersey State Highway Department, where he retired in 1988 after 26 years of service.


Cecil meet and married his wife Marjorie E. Tunis Abrahams (m. Aug 1954 in Bridgeton City, Cumberland, NJ). They just celebrated in August, 48 years of a happy marriage. Cecil had a lovely personality, he loved to serve the Lord. Cecil joined the Haven United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, was a trustee and was very active until his health began to fail. Cecil was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge #3, F & A.M. - P.H.A., Salem, NJ. Cecil was ill a long while, however he was a patient sufferer, always reading his Bible and singing his favorite hymn "Sweet Hour of Prayer."


Cecil leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Marjorie Tunis Abrahams; 1 daughter, Violet Henry of Jamaica; a son-in-law, Headley Davis; 3 grandchildren, Mark and Janine Daye of New York & Jacqueline Henry of Jamaica; 1 brother, Gerald Cunningham of New York; 2 brother-in-laws, Carl Tunis and Walter Denby; 2 sister-in-laws, Joyce Cunningham and Carrie Tunis, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and friends. Cecil was predeceased by 1 daughter, Yvonne Daye and 1 brother, David Abrahams.
