Ed was born in Los Angeles County to Edward Fike McHenry and Helen Lorene Duvall. He attended San Diego High School and San Diego City College. He entered the Navy at the start of WWII as a Pharmacist's Mate and received the Purple Heart for his wounds suffered on Iwo Jima.
He began work at Melhorn Construction Company in 1948 and formed a partnership with Marty Melhorn, forming Melhorn-McHenry Co., retiring in 2004. The well known construction firm built many of the commercial buildings in San Diego.
Ed and his wife Kathy purchased their Rams Hill home in the Santa Fe neighborhood in 1987. Ed loved to play golf and he would be seen heading down in the golf cart to pick up the morning paper, often with his favorite Papillon dog. We remember Ed, always smiling and with a great sense of humor.
Ed was predeceased by his parents and his sister Joanne. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Kathy, his sister Sue, children Jerry and Janis, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
There will be no services per his wishes, and donations in his memory may be made to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Museum, 1600 Hockmuth Ave., San Diego, CA 92140 or American Legion Post 853, P.O. Box 2653 ~ 4515 Borrego Springs Rd., Borrego Springs, CA 92004.
