Hugh W. "John" Vance, 70, of Wallingford died unexpectedly on May 19, 2014 just hours before his mother passed away. Mr. Vance was born in Chapmanville, WV to Hassell and Mary (nee Hamilton) Vance.
As a young man he joined the US Navy and served aboard the USS Donner. It was during that time he met his wife of 47 years, Rose Galey.
He was employed by Drexel University for nearly 50 years. He enjoyed fishing, was devoted to his family and loved his grandchildren.
Survivors: In addition to his wife, Mr. Vance is survived by his sons John (Stacy) Vance of Crum Lynne, Brian Vance of Prospect Park, David (Karen) Vance of Wallingford, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Services: Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Service on Saturday, May 24, 2014, 11:00a.m. in Carr Funeral Home, 935 S. Providence Rd. (Route 320), Wallingford. Friends may call beginning at 10:00 a.m. Int.: Private. www.carrfuneralhome.net
