Raymond lived in Pana his entire life, was a graduate of Pana High School and served as a combat engineer in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a life-long farmer and retired from Circle Steele in Taylorville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pana & Pana VFW. Raymond enjoyed working with livestock, horses, & cattle; feeding the birds throughout the winter; and he especially loved being around his grandchildren & great grandchildren.
Raymond Bond married Effie Mae Harris on September 8, 1947 in El Paso, IL. She preceded him in death on September 14, 2013.
He is survived by his children: David (Aurora) Bond, Carbondale, IL; Linda (Curt) Flowers, Monticello, IL; Danny (Laura) Bond, Pana, IL; Don (Patty) Bond, Pana, IL; Becky (Roy) Billiter, Pana, IL and Rhonda (Randy) Black Herrick, IL; 14 grandchildren: Christopher (Ali) Miller, Brooke (Lou) DiBello, Victoria Bond, Michael Flowers, Sylvia (Ben) King, Mandy (Matt) England, Heather (Trevin) Dagen, Erica (Stephen) Porter, Jared (Sarah) Bond, Joshua (Amy) Barringer, Kenna (Alex) Henderson, Holly (Austin) Hoppe, Matthew (Alyssa) Black, Malaney (Matt) Hall and 18 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by 1 granddaughter; 1 great granddaughter; brother, Carroll Bond; and sisters: Velma Ellinger, Doris Pulliam, Leah Bond, Hazel Bond, & Ruth Bond.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 15, 2018 in the First Baptist Church of Pana at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Josh Palma officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Pana with military rites by Pana Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until service time in the church.
Memorials in Raymond’s honor may be made to First Baptist Church of Pana, 114 Maple St., Pana, IL 62557 or Pana Community Hospital Foundation, 101 E. Ninth St., Pana, IL 62557 and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, which is assisting the family with arrangements.
