Wayne Allan Whitener, Sr., 78, of Oklahoma City, died Saturday, February 17, 2018, in Norman. The son of Fairis Thrasher “Whitey” Whitener and Willie Mae (Jones) Whitener, he was born January 17, 1940, in Rosedale, Oklahoma.

Wayne served in the Air National Guard and was Church of Christ in faith. He worked at Western Electric for many years. Wayne owned and operated Wayne’s Detector Sales in Oklahoma City for 35 years. In his spare time, Wayne spent countless hours searching for treasure with his metal detector and collected antique bottles, jewelry, coins, relics, and marbles. He enjoyed keeping a nice yard and looking after his dogs. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Timothy Whitener; two sisters, Gwenda Wilson and Sherrol Upton; his longtime love, Thelma Roddrick; his good friends, Lester Skinner, Butch Price, and Bill Slate; and a cousin, Jack Johnston.

Wayne is survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Sharon Granko of Moore; one son, Wayne Allan Whitener, Jr. and wife, Stephanie, of Bristow; one daughter, Lori Dawn Cox and husband, Jason, of Bridge Creek; three grandchildren, Laney Workman, Blake Cox, and Taylor Cox, all of Bridge Creek; three sisters, Gilda Mauldin of Stratford, Ferrie Treadway of Ada, and Debbie Potter of Hickory; an aunt, Betty Whitener of Louisiana; his best friend, Bill Hallman of Blanchard; and many other loved ones and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 22, 2018, at the Eisenhour Funeral Home Chapel in Blanchard. Burial will follow at 12:30 PM in the Wanette Cemetery in Wanette.
