She was born in Swifton, Ark., on Jan. 10, 1940, and was one of three daughters born of the late Leslie and Vella Maye (Moore) Brand.
Shirley was a devoted Christian lady, who took great pride in her love of the Lord, as well as her family. She and her husband, Wayne owned and operated Kirby's Steamboat Inn in Grafton for many years, and she retired from the food service department at Principia College in Elsah.
She married Vawl Wayne Kirby on July 23, 1954, in Black Rock, Ark., and together they shared nearly 52 years together and raised their three children until his death on July 19, 2006. Shirley was then blessed again, when she married Paul Manley on June 23, 2009, in Shipman, and they have enjoyed these last five years together.
Surviving are her husband, Paul Manley of Grafton; three children and their spouses, Gary Kirby, and his companion, Becky Fessler of Jerseyville, Roger and Pam Kirby of Jerseyville, and Tina and Dan Tonsor of Jerseyville; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Justin and Angie Kirby of Jerseyville, Brandon and Jacqueline Kirby of Delavan, Preston Kirby, and his companion, Ciara Kibbons of Hillsboro, Andy Kirby of Burlington, Iowa, Arlee and Nathan Walker, Abbie and Ryan Bean, Drew Kirby, and Jeremy and Emily Clay, all of Jerseyville; a step granddaughter, Kelsey Tonsor, and her companion, Marty Meyer of Golden Eagle; 14 great-grandchildren; two stepchildren and their spouses, Kathleen and Don Zolfo of New Lenox, and Michael J. Manley of Fosterburg; and three stepgrandchildren, Rachel, Dan and Matthew Zolfo.
In addition to her husband Wayne, she was preceded in death by her father, Leslie Brand; her mother, Vella Brand Reando; a grandson, Abram Kirby on July 19, 1989; and her two sisters, Rose Pfenninger and Patricia DuCharme.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 15, at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 16, 2015. Her great nephew, Rev. Josh Gray will officiate.
She will be laid to rest in the Noble Cemetery in Otterville.
Memorials may be given to the Shriners Hospital.
