A J was a well known charter members of San Francisco, he came to California in 1849 and headed out to the mines locating himself to Shasta where he engaged in trading, where he accumulated about $ 45,000. He came to San Francisco in 1863 and purchased the lot at the southwest corner of California and Montgomery streets, on which he erected a four story brick building. He had rented out the rooms and had made a considerable amount of money and invested in mining stocks and made around $ 10,000 a month. He leaves a brother in the city.
