JAMES T TODD
James T. Rogers, one of the pioneers of Decatur county, having resided in the county for more than forty years, died at his home in Davis City, Iowa, July 31, 1910 at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 1 day, his death being cause by acute indigestion.

Mr. Rogers was born in Lawrence County, Indiana, Oct 30, 1839 and lived there until he was 16 years of age, when he removed to Jackson, Indiana. On July 30, 1862 he enlisted in Co. K. 70th Indiana Infantry, and served his country for three years. He participated in the Battles of Resaca and Kenesaw Mountain, the taking of Atlanta, and was with Sherman on his march to the sea. The story of his life during this period of the country's strife and bloodshed would make a narrative which would rival fiction in interest. By his death there is one less in the fast thinning ranks of our surviving heroes, one more gone to answer the last roll call.

After the war was over he came west and settled in Decatur county on a farm in Hamilton Township and continued to make his home in this county until his death. He was united in Marriage to Miss Priseilla Strickland August 12, 1857, and to their union eleven children were born, seven of whom with the devoted wife are left to mourn the loss of husband and father. He enjoyed the warm friendship and esteem of many friends, who extend their sympathy to the bereaved family.

The surviving children are John W. of Wagoner, Oklahoma: J. Henry of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma: George T. of Decatur, Michigan: Newton, of Nebraska: Mrs. Anna Bennett, of Decatur, Iowa: MRS. ELLA BINNING, Cora, Wyoming: Mrs. Etta Porter, of Des Moines, Iowa.

Mr. Rogers was a man of upright character and was a member of the Adventist church. Funeral services were held from the Adventist church at Davis City on Wednesday, August 1st, the sermon being preached by Rev. Neal, of Osceola, Iowa. Interment being in the 100 F Cemetery, at Davis City. Members of the G.A.R. Post at Davis City, acted as pall bearers and laid their old comrade in his final resting place with all Military Honors.

1912 -- 1922 in a 10 year span Margaret Ellen Rogers Binning gave birth to 3 children, Ella was 43 Years, 3 Months, 21 Days of age with the birth of her 3rd child, daughter Margaret Binning.
