Corporal Mujahid Ramzziddin was shot and killed at approximately 10:15 am while attempting to protect a female subject who was being attacked in a domestic violence incident in a neighborhood near the intersection of Chadds Ford Drive and Chadsey Lane.

Corporal Ramzziddin, was off duty and lived nearby, attempted to protect the female and confronted the man who was armed with a shotgun. The subject, who had a protective order issued against him, fatally shot Corporal Ramzziddin before stealing his service weapon and fleeing in a vehicle.

Responding officers pursued the man approximately 10 miles before he stopped and attempted to flee into a nearby wooded area. The man was shot and killed by pursuing officers.

Corporal Ramzziddin was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Prince George's County Police Department for 14 years. This gentleman lived his life giving to others, giving service. "He was home that day. He was off duty. He didn't have to answer the door. He didn't have to walk out that door," Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker said. "Their (police officers') badge doesnÂ't come off at night. It's 24 hours, and they run to service."

Officer Ramzziddin was a Marine Corps veteran, a father of four and his motherÂ's only child.

The Imam at Nation's Mosque says a funeral for Cpl. Ramzziddin will be Friday at the Diyanet Center of America in Lanham, Md. Time is to be determined.

The Prince GeorgeÂ's County Police Department asked the community to keep RamzziddinÂ's family and its department in its prayers. Condolences poured in from departments around the region after the news broke of RamzziddinÂ's death.

According to RamzziddinÂ's LinkedIn profile, he had previously served with the Metropolitan Police Department for five years, the DC Air National Guard for two years and the U.S. Marine Corps. for eight years.

Prince George's County Police Chief Henry Stawinski III said Ramzziddin was awarded the Medal of Valor in 2006.

Â"We have been helped by our partners in the Muslim community to put together a ceremony which respects his faith and tenets of his religion, but that all had to happen in 48 hours,Â" said Prince GeorgeÂ's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski.

Cpl. Mujahid Ramzziddin will be laid to rest on Friday. Following a private, Islamic funeral service inside Diyanet Center of America in Lanham. Here is the schedule:

The Diyanet Center of America is located at 9610 Good Luck Road in Lanham. A burial service will follow at Forth Lincoln Cemetery which is located at 3401 Bladensburg Road in Brentwood, Maryland.

It is along that route where the public and fellow first responders will be able to pay their respects to Ramzziddin before his burial.
