DARREN MATTHEW KROUPA, 23, of WALL, passed away Sunday, April 1, at his home after a courageous two-year battle with malignant melanoma.

Born in Neptune, he had been a lifelong resident of Wall. He was a graduate of Wall High School in 2002, and was a member of the high school band and jazz band, where he played guitar and bass. He attended Berklee School of Music, Boston, for a year before transferring to Brookdale Community College, where he received his associates degree, and at the time of his death was attending Rutgers University for the pre-law program. His most memorable experience in the past two years of his illness was his trips to Disney World and to Hollywood to meet Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Clint and Ruth Osborn; his paternal grandfather, Kenneth Kroupa; and his cousin, Kristine Russell. Surviving are his parents, Kenneth and Debra Osborn Kroupa of Wall, with whom he lived; his paternal grandmother, Emily Kroupa; his loving sister, Melanie Kroupa, at home; his aunts and uncles, Greg and Shelly Russell of Allenwood, and Carol and Bill Fanslow of East Brunswick; and his cousins, Scott, Kimberly, Stacey, Greg, Steven and Marissa and their families.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at O'Brien Funeral Home, Route 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan.
