Richard “Dick” Bauer of Menomonie, WI, (formerly of Baldwin & Ellsworth) passed away on February 23, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Red Cedar surrounded by his family.

Dick was born on April 28, 1937 in St. Paul, MN to Phil and Eileen (Sawyer) Bauer. He grew up in the New Richmond-Cylon area and graduated from New Richmond High School in 1955.

Dick married Martha Tiedemann on February 2, 1957 and had 61 loving years with her. Dick and Martha had three children, Roxanne, Gail and Keith.

Dick had a varied and interesting life. He started his married life with Martha working as a bank teller. From there he went on to tire salesman, service station owner/mechanic, mayor of Oakdale MN, farmer, farm supplies salesman and sales clerk until he retired in 2017.

Dick served his country in the WI National Guard Red Arrow Brigade, Co. B, 132nd tank battalion (New Richmond Armory) and was stationed at Fort Lewis, WA during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Dick is survived by his loving wife Martha, children; Roxanne (Jim) Lund of Woodville WI, Gail Hanson of Stoughton WI, and Keith (Lory) Bauer of Viroqua, WI, grandchildren; Andrea (Travis) Flug, Nicole (Mark) LaGioia, Jon Hanson, Joe (Nicole) Hanson, Travis (fiancé Christina Paulsrud) Bauer and Emily (fiancé Ben Peterson) Schmidt, great-grandchildren; Ethan Hanson, Michaela and Peyton Flug, Jackson Schmidt and Charlotte Peterson. Dick is further survived by his brothers; Don (Brenda) Bauer, Jim (Julie) Bauer, sister-in-law Tammy Bauer and other family and friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; Phil and Eileen Bauer, in-laws, Henry & Mona Tiedemann, brother Gordon Bauer and grandparents Peter and Magdalena Bauer and Robert and Bertha Sawyer.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Menomonie with Pastor Heather Wigdahl officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place at a later date at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the C.O.P.D. Foundation or to the family in his memory.
