Bonnie Rose Watkins McWhorter

Bonnie Rose Watkins McWhorter, a resident of the New Salem Community in Lincoln County, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born Thursday, June 25, 1936 in the Bonnyman Community of Perry County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late George & Beatrice Patrick Watkins. Bonnie was a 1955 graduate of McKinney High School. Her loving husband of 62 1/2 years, whom she married July 2, 1955, is Ronald H. McWhorter of New Salem. Bonnie retired, after working over 25 years as the Secretary at McKinney Elementary School, and also served as the 21st Century Director for a few years. Since June 24, 2013, Bonnie served as an Ambassador at Fox & Friend Funeral Home and Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home. Bonnie was a faithful member of Green River Pentecostal Church where she served on the Christmas Blessings Committee. Bonnie was also a past Training Union leader at church, charter member of the McKinney Rescue Squad, member of the McKinney Homemakers, lifetime honorary member of McKinney FFA, and member of the Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary. Bonnie loved spending time with her family and enjoyed making crafts in her spare time.

In addition to her husband, Bonnie leaves behind two sons, Ronnie Kim McWhorter (Sharon) and Larry Keith McWhorter (Karen) both of New Salem; four grandchildren, Kevin McWhorter (Heather) of New Salem, Jonathan McWhorter (Kristen) of Geneva, Missy McWilliams (Ryan) of Eubank, and Korey McWhorter (Tiffany) of New Salem; two great-grandchildren, Shelby Lynn McWilliams of Eubank and Maverick Kreed McWhorter of New Salem; and one great-grandchild due August 2018.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Ray Watkins; one sister, Betty Campbell; and three infant sisters, Ruth Watkins, Susann Watkins, and Mary Ellen Watkins.

A Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Green River Pentecostal Church with Bro. Rick Naylor officiating the service. Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery. Kevin McWhorter, Jonathan McWhorter, Korey McWhorter, Ryan McWilliams, Johnny Ray Walls, and Jim England will serve as Active Pallbearers. Kim McWhorter, Larry McWhorter, Dale Reed, Jim Bastin, John Sparkman, Larry Todd, Johnny Walls, David Lewis, Tim Tillett, Steve Austin, Mike Smith, Kenneth Patton, and Dr. Jonathan Clark will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
