MONMOUTH ~ Sarah “Sally” Slauenwhite, 75, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Hospice House in Auburn. She was born in Augusta on July 6, 1942, daughter of the late Charles and Barbara (Thompson) Benson. Sally was born and raised in Winthrop and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1961.

Later in 1961, she married Edward S. Slauenwhite on December 16, 1961 at the Congregational Church in Winthrop.

Sally enjoyed spending time with friends and loved ones. She was willing to go on any type of adventure. She loved camping, fishing and riding the back roads of Maine. She would share pictures with anyone willing to look at them.

Sally was a very talented person, spending her free time making quilts, knitting, card making, and crafting.

She was a member of United Church of Monmouth, Winthrop United Congregational Church, Silver Sneakers at the YMCA in Manchester, Cumston Area Quilters, Red Hats, Monmouth Fish & Game, and Monmouth Fire Department Auxiliary, just to name a few. She also volunteered for the Theater of Monmouth and at Winthrop Manor for many years.

Sally worked at a number of places over the years - NAPA Auto Parts in Winthrop, The Spinning Wheel Florist in Monmouth, Winthrop Flower Shop, and Monmouth school system in the cafeteria.

She was predeceased by her husband; brother Richard Benson and his wife, Judy; sister-in-law Esther Prince and her husband, Calvin; and nephew Glenn Benson.

Sally is survived by her two children, William Slauenwhite and his wife, Arlene, of Biddeford and Susan Farrington and her husband, Lawrence, of Sebago; grandchildren Alyssa Chauncey and her husband, Kyle, of Dover, NH, Maggi Gurling of Greensboro, NC, Crystal Farrington of Portland, Grace Farrington of Sebago and Tyler Farrington and his wife, Katie, of Oliver Springs, TN; great granddaughters Kiera and Kensley Farrington of Oliver Springs, TN and Molly Gurling of Greensboro, NC; brother James Benson and his wife, Marge, of Augusta; brother- in-laws Norm Slauenwhite and his wife, Lois, of Monmouth and James Slauenwhite and his wife, Cheryl, of Readfield; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones that called her ‘Aunt Sally’.

Burial will be in Monmouth Ridge Cemetery in the spring.
