Barbara Jeanne Eberhart, age 74, of Garden City, died Monday, February 26, 2018.

Funeral Service 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 2, 2018 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Mankato, with Rev. Paul Lauer, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Thursday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at the church on Friday. Private family interment will be in Barnard’s Valley View Cemetery, Good Thunder. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Barbara Jeanne was born October 25, 1943 to W.B. and Jeanne (Pehrson) Hawker in Albert Lea, Minnesota. She was baptized in Winona Episcopal Church and confirmed in Alden Methodist Church. She graduated from Alden/Conger High School in 1961 and from Naeve Hospital School of Nursing in Albert Lea as an R.N. in 1964. Barbara worked briefly at Minneapolis General Hospital and Naeve Hospital before marrying David Eberhart in Alden on June 5, 1965. Together they raised their three children on a farm near Garden City. She worked later as a nurse educator for Nutrisystem, Inc. and as church secretary at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Vernon Center until her retirement in 2010. She was a member of many local clubs and of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Mankato, where she sang in the choir. She was well-read, an amazing puzzle solver, and the go-to person in any crisis. She did more listening than talking, gave more than she received, and never forgot to send a handwritten card on special occasions to those on her long list of family and friends.

Barbara is survived by her husband, David of Garden City; her three children, Joel (Suzanne) Eberhart of Garden City, Melissa (Chris Johnson) Eberhart of St. Paul, and Ryan (Dawn) Eberhart of St. Peter; her grandchildren, Keeli (Andy) Ott and Haley Eberhart, Olivia and Ella Johnson, and Alex and Allan Eberhart; her twin sister, Mary (Bill) Bakeman of Roseville; her brother, Bill Hawker (Linda Stevens) of Arizona; sisters-in-law, Janet Cooper of Bloomington and Jean (Tom) Clifford of Maple Grove; as well as her wonderful nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her nephew, Daniel Hawker in 1989; and her brother-in-law, John Cooper in 1993. Many thanks to the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Cancer Center, especially to PAs Tanya Watson and Annie Barlow for their thorough and compassionate care.
