James Rufus Webster was born in Rockingham County, North Carolina to Pleasant R. Webster and Matiilda Jane Webster. He was the great grandson of Revolutionary War Patriot John R. Webster of Virginia. When Jim was a child the family migrated to Henry County Missouri between 1850 and 1860. He was a member of Company E, Nichol's regiment, Jackman's Brigade Missouri Cavalry CSA. His older brother, Martin Webster, was a Union soldier. Jim's last years were spent in the Confederate Home in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
