Freda B. Dobler, 98, died on December 8, 2018 in Independence, MO. Born on January 26, 1920, she attended Buckner schools, graduating from high school in 1937, and then attended Kansas City Business College. Upon graduation she was employed at Kansas City Life and Prudential Insurance Companies. Prior to marriage in 1942, she worked at Lake City Ammunition Plant and then delivered prescriptions for Petey Childer's while her husband served in the Navy during WWII. From 1963 until her retirement in 1985, Freda worked as bookkeeper for Livers Bronze Company. Freda was a member St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Independence and was actively involved in all facets of church life on the local, regional and national levels. She was the first woman elected Church Council President and on the regional level, became the first woman to serve as Moderator of the Missouri Conference of the UCC. In her retirement, she continued to serve her family, God and her Church in many capacities. A life-long seamstress she had become a steadfast member of the Busy Bee's Quilting Group at St. Luke's, eventually gifting each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with beautiful heirloom quilts as well as many baby quilts created for friends and other family members. Freda was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Julia Brune, sister Edna Twente, brothers, Fred Brune and Ervin Brune, and her twin sister Flora Acree. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Walter E. Dobler. She leaves two daughters, Jan (Fred) Bredehoeft of Independence and Karen Puhr of Blue Springs, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018 at St. Luke's United Church of Christ, 727 N. Main St., Independence at 11:00 am with visitation at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Church Memorial Fund or the Asana Hospice.
