Obituary
Martha E. Schmidt Kearney of Dalton and Lake Sheridan died Wednesday morning at Abington Manor, Clarks Summit. She was married to C. Andrew "Drew" Kearney for 29 years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Major Richard H. Schmidt, who was killed in action in Vietnam and received the Silver Star.
Born Aug. 14, 1928, in Spring Lake, N.J., daughter of the late Rev. Harry D. and Grace E. Clay Hummer, she worked for many years as a registered nurse. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Clarks Summit. She attended Allegheny College and trained at Abington Memorial Hospital for three years to earn her RN degree. She loved to travel, spend time at the lake and especially enjoyed time with her family.
Also surviving are two sons, Richard V. Schmidt, Green River, Utah; and Kurt Schmidt, Cincinnatus, N.Y.; four daughters, Susan Shoup, Butler, Pa.; Karen O'Connor, Chantilly, Va.; Hollie Loder, Syracuse, N.Y.; and Bonna Somers, Lock Haven; three stepsons, Anthony Kearney, Waverly; Emmett Kearney, Dalton; and R. Mark Kearney, Pittsburgh; a stepdaughter, Connie Butts, Moscow; 24 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by a sister Lillian Mae Hiller
Memorial services will be Sunday at 11 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. George Matthews officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Woodlawn Cemetery, Factoryville.
