Tom Rhodes passed away with his family by his side after a courageous eight-month battle with lung cancer.

Tom was born to Jack and Bernice Rhodes. He attended Longfellow Grade School, Boise Junior High and Boise High School, graduating in 1953. A gifted athlete, Tom lettered in football and track. He also earned his Eagle Scout award and worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the Natatorium, which was managed several years by his parents. His parents lived at, owned and ran Tommy's Soda Fountain on N. 14th Street, across from Boise (now North) Junior High. He also worked and skied at Bogus Basin ski area, and worked for the U.S. Forest Service in 1952-53 in trail management and as a forest fire fighter.

Tom graduated from Boise Junior College in 1955, where he played football for Coach Lyle Smith and ran on the track team. He attended the University of Idaho where he was a member of the ATO Fraternity and swam on the Helldivers Swim Team. He also attended the College of Idaho.
Tom graduated from the Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning GA. He served with the US Army Reserves and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant in December 1960. He was honorably discharged after 11 years of service.

Tom met Sharon Teresa Lee from Nampa on a blind date in 1958. They were married June 13, 1959 at St Paul's Catholic Church in Nampa. Last June they celebrated their 56th anniversary. They had three great boys, Tim, John and Steve. Tom was active in the upbringing of his children, serving as their Cub Scoutmaster, PTO president and soccer coach. He cheered on his grandchildren at their sporting events.

Tom was active in the community. At the urging of their good friends Bill & Harriett Narver, he joined the Boise Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees), serving on the board, making friends and having many good times. He loved to dance!

In 1967 He attended a meeting for the formation of Boise State Alumni Association. He left the meeting as their first president! He was a lifetime member of the Boise State Alumni Association and was a member of the Varsity B Club (football, track).

Tom worked as a Realtor beginning in 1965. He formed his own company (The Village Co.) in 1986, and worked many years with his partner Donna Long. He loved real estate, and did not retire until the year of his death. He also had been a licensed residential appraiser.
Tom was a member of St Mark's Catholic Community since its inception. In recent years he was a daily volunteer at the church food bank, and volunteered at Nazareth Retreat Center.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, sons, Tim (Kyndra), John (Jill) and Steve (Monica), grandchildren: Audrey (Bryan), Brittany, Hayden Rhodes and Matt (Alicia) Kiser, one great-grandson, Kannon Kiser, and cousins, Dave Adams, Greg and Janice Kay.

A Mass celebrating Tom's life will be held Monday, January 18th at St. Mark's Catholic Community, 7960 W. Northview St. in Boise at 11:00 AM,
with luncheon following.
