Born on March 19, 1960 in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was the son of the late Arnoldus J. and Everdina Smit Kolkena.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served as the Elders Quorum President for the Charles Town, West Virginia Ward.
Mr. Kolkena was a devoted husband and father, and a retired U.S. Air Force veteran. He currently worked for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. His contribution to our country, service to the security of our homeland, and loving devotion to his faith and family provided an anchor far-reaching, deeply missed and for the continuing betterment of the lives he touched.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Rachel, at home; two sons, Daniel and Alex Kolkena; one sister, Maggie Kolkena, one brother, Raymond Kolkena and numerous extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Broderick.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 343 Carriage Drive, Harpers Ferry, WV, with Bishop Brett Warren officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Eackles-Spencer and Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Interment will be in Quantico National Cemetery at a later date.
