His time at Fort Jackson was spent training soldiers in basic combat infantry skills and providing key leadership throughout the battalion. He was an asset to the battalion's mission and a role model for all soldiers to follow. In his 13 years of military service he was stationed in Germany, Fort Benning, Ga., Fort Polk, La., Fort Drum and Fort Bragg, N.C., and Fort Jackson. During that time, he served in peacekeeping missions in Haiti and Bosnia Herzegovina.
He earned prestigious awards such as the Ranger Tab, Expert Infantry Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, Senior Parachutes Badge and Air Assault Badge. He was awarded such medals and ribbons as Meritorious Service Medal, three Army Commendation Medals, five Army Achievement Medals, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, NATO Medal, Overseas Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon and Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon.
