Alice was born in Gwynn, Virginia October 30, 1925 to Earlie Forrest and Peachie Miles Forrest. She was baptized into the Methodist church as a teenager. She married Naval Officer Alan M. Hazen in 1948 and with him and their children, traveled much and lived in a number of locations in the U. S. and several cities in Japan.
