Tuskegee Airman
Tuskegee Airman and Congressional Gold Medal recipient in 2007, he served in the military during World War II, Korea and Vietnam, as well as piloting transport missions during the Berlin Airlift. He attained the rank of Lt Col in the Air Force before retiring. Following his military service, he was a New York Police Department Detective for 27 years. He was one of the few remaining living members of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American aviation combat unit. He met his wife of 70 years when she also worked on the air base at Tuskegee, working as an aircraft repairer; she survived him.
Funeral services were held on March 21, 2018 at Greater Refuge Temple, Harlem, NY. Interment on August 22, 2018.
