He attended George Washington High School and graduated in 1959. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Coast Guard and was stationed at Virginia Beach and was assigned to the vessel USCGC Marion (WSC-145) in May of that same year.
In 1960 he married Carol L. Wright and had three children together, Keith, Kent and Cherlyn Dixon Smith.
In his earlier years he worked hard as a student and an employee. He attended Strayer College for business while working at the local A&P store as a meat cutter.
He eventually was able to get a job working for the District of Columbia Government HR office. He had a few different job titles during his tenure there before taking retirement at age 54.
He was a great listener, never complaining about his own problems but was eager to hear what was going on with you!!
He loved carpentry and cabinetry and enjoyed building and repairing furniture for his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and put up with many a corny joke! (ok, son thats two!!)
His wife was his best friend and he loved and respected her till the end. A great testimony to his family of what a loving husband should be.
He was blessed to be survived by his three children and his 7 grandchildren; Sarah, Josh, Mary, Seth, Jessie, Ben and Levi. Sleep in Jesus Dad.
