Mr. Claude Allen "Coach" Holsclaw, 83, 826 Hickory Street, Elizabethton died Thursday, March 15, 2007 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a lengthy illness. A native of Carter County, TN he was the son of the late James Fred and Susan Ann Harmon Holsclaw. He attended the University of Tennessee and in 1945 played in the Rose Bowl Game for UT. He was a graduate of Milligan College. "Coach" Holsclaw was a retired school teacher with the Carter County School System and had been a coach at Unaka and Elizabethton High Schools. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Elizabethton Golf Club. Mr. Holsclaw was a member of East River Park Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles B. Holsclaw; a sister, Margaret Pauline Yates Shell and two nephews, Norman "Cotton" Hodge and Chester Allen Taylor. Survivors include three brothers, Arthur Holsclaw, Willie Holsclaw and his wife Leota and John Holsclaw and his wife Donna, all of Elizabethton and six sisters, Ola Campbell, Pittsburg, PA, Martha Forbes and her husband Robert, Johnson City, Maxine Gagliano, Juanita Pansock, Betty Maupin and her husband Jim and Barbara Milsaps, all of Elizabethton. One hundred and seven nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service for Mr. Claude Allen "Coach" Holsclaw will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Saturday, March 17, 2007 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Mr. John Smith and Mr. Gerald Holly, ministers officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Mary Smith. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 18, 2007 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be nephews, Michael Pansock, Jeff Holsclaw, Eddie Holsclaw, John Holsclaw Jr., Norm Hodge, John Bo Pansock, David Holsclaw and Randy Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Willie Church, Howard "Lefty" Bowers, Harold Stout, Hugh Buckles, James Hunt, Don Woods, Robert Forbes, Jim Maupin,James Carr and Brian Buckner.
