William L. Cannon, 84, of Hermitage Health Center, Elizabethton, died Saturday, February 25, 2006 in the Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness. Mr. Cannon was a native of Boone, North Carolina and a son of the late William Arthur and Sarah Marilla South Cannon. He was a retired employee of the City of Elizabethton and a former employee of the American Bemberg Corp. Mr. Cannon was a World II Army veteran. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Elizabethton. He was preceded in death by a son, William L. Cannon, Jr.; by four brothers and five sisters. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Joe Collins and Sandra and Benny Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton; three sons and a daughter-in-law, James Cannon, Ronnie Cannon, Jerry Cannon and wife Vickie, all of Elizabethton; Twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for William L. Cannon will be conducted at 8:00 PM Monday, February 27, 2006 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Mark C. Collins officiating. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside by Capt. Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166 and the Tennessee National Guard.
