Thomas was the eldest of thirteen children born to Edmund and Anna Mariah Baker. His grandfather, Willis Baker, was executed as a Confederate sympathizer during the Palmyra Massacre, Palmyra, Missouri, in 1862.

Thomas married twice. His first wife was Margaret Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Stanley whom he married 14 May 1890 in Montgomery County, Kansas. Lizzie died in 1893. Her burial location is unknown.

Thomas married a second time 13 Dec 1897 in Chautauqua County, Kansas, to Rosa H. Shores. Rosa's death location and burial place is unknonw.

Thomas died at the Osawatomie State Hospital. According to his death certificate, he was buried in Elmdale Cemetery, which is operated by the City of Osawatomie.

Gravesite Details

According to the cemetery sexton, there does not seem to be a headstone for Thomas. It is not known if there was ever a headstone on his grave. The cemetery has been flooded a few times over the years causing loss of and/or damage to many stones.
