OBITUARIES-LUTHER G. SMITH-The funeral for Luther Green Smith was held yesterday at the East Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Wint Bolton with Rev. Floyd Young assisting. Music was under the direction of Horace Serivens. Serving as pallbearers were Jess Moody, Floyd Miller, Andrew Redmon, Lawrence Yoakum, Bud Swannigan and Tom Thompson. Flower girls were Dora Miller, Edith Smith, Elizabeth Mayes, and Eula Redmon. Burial was in the Hurst Cemetery.

LOCAL MAN SHOT IN FAMILY ROW AT BROADTREE--Luther Green Smith Dead; Arnold Duff Held in Jail--Luther Green Smith, 46, Middlesboro, KY, died in the Pineville Hospital yesterday morning of a gunshot wound which Arnold Duff, 24, of Broadtree Hollow, has admitted inflicting. Duff, who said he was the son-in-law of Smith's wife, Viney Sexton Smith, is in the Bell county jail awaiting a hearing on a murder charge in connection with the shooting. Smith was shot in the Duff home at about 7 o'clock Saturday night. His death occurred at 10 am yesterday. According to Duff, the shooting took place when Smith arrived at Duff's home and entered into an argument with members of the family. He said that when he shot Smith, the latter had Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Nola Nickols "backed into a corner", with an open knife in his hand. Smith is survived by his wife, Georgia Wilson Smith, and four brothers, Ben of Kitts, KY, Bill of LaFollette, TN, John G. of Chattanooga, TN and Kelly of Fonde, TN. Funeral services will be conducted from the East Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church here at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon by Rev. Wint Bolton. The body is being held at the Floyd Miller home on the Pineville Road.
