Services for Joseph "Joe" Embry, of Lubbock and formerly of Muleshoe, will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2007, at the Muleshoe Church of Christ. Burial will follow at the Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends and family on Sunday, April 8, 2007, from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Ellis Funeral Home, Muleshoe.

Joseph "Joe" Edward Embry was born Oct. 27, 1920, to J.E. and Lula Wright Embry in Davidson, Okla. His family came to the Y L community near Muleshoe in November, 1929. He was a resident of Muleshoe until November, 2005 when he moved to Lubbock for medical care. He departed this life on Thursday, April 5, 2007, in Lubbock.

He graduated from Muleshoe High School in 1937. He attended an Aeronautical School in Dallas before serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps form 1942 to 1946. Upon returning from the service, he returned to farming in the Muleshoe area and retired from farming in 1984. He served his community holding positions on the Bailey County Electric Board, Five Area Telephone Board, Pleasant Valley Gas Association Board, and the Muleshoe Independent School Board.

He had been a member of the Muleshoe Church of Christ for over 50 years and served as a deacon for several years before serving as an elder for 25 years. He was currently a member of the Broadway Church of Christ.

He married Claudine Trapp in Muleshoe on Feb. 1, 1948. They had two children, Johnny Euell Embry and Rhonda Euell Embry.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Doyle Ray Embry and James Calvin Embry; and his son, Johnny Euell Embry.

He is survived by the loves of his life: his wife of 59 years, Claudine Embry of Lubbock; his daughter-in-law, Tanya Embry of Lubbock; son-in-law and daughter, Mack and Rhonda Hodges of Lubbock; nine grandchildren, Brian and Stacey Miller of Springfield, Ill., John Embry of Lubbock, Donald and Lori Fritz of Lubbock, Chris and Suzy Key of Frisco, and Cody and Jill Mull of Idalou; and three great-grandchildren, Zachary Miller of Springfield, Ill., Joseph Fritz of Lubbock, and Audrey Mull of Idalou.

He is also survived by two brothers, Floyd Embry of Farwell and Chester Embry of Muleshoe, and one sister, Lula Maye Shanks of Muleshoe.
