Eleanore Harriet Harmon, 96
YARMOUTH - Eleanore Harriet Jordan was born Nov. 24, 1920, the oldest of five children of Beatrice and G. Marshall Jordan, in East Poland. She passed away on July 17, 2017. Her early years were spent at home in East Poland.
She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1938 and married Sterling A. Harmon, of Mechanic Falls, on June 1, 1940. After he graduated from the Maine State Police Academy, they moved to Cumberland Center. She spent the rest of her life in and around the greater Portland area.
Always a hard worker, she held many jobs in her lifetime. These included stitching in a shoe shop, a clerk in several department stores, a waitress in various places, a stitcher in a rug factory, an office worker, and a secretary. For many years, she worked at E. S. Boulos Co. in Portland. Among her hobbies, she was accomplished at knitting, crocheting, and hooking rugs. She also was a talented seamstress and as a young wife, she made many clothes for herself and her daughter.
Eleanore was predeceased by an infant daughter, Jeanette; brothers, Robert M. Jordan, and Gerald E. Jordan; and sister, Gloria Jordan Giddinge. She had been widowed since 2004. She is survived by her brother, Anthony Jordan, of Otisfield; and her daughter Georgianna Harmon, of Kearney, Neb.; four grandchildren, John Kellett, of Phoenix, Ariz.; Julie Doornbos, of York, Neb.; Candy Kennedy, of Aston, Pa.; and Amos Cox of Tempe, Ariz.; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Coastal Manor and Beacon Hospice for their kind and loving care to Eleanore. Her last days were made more comfortable thanks to their efforts.
Visiting hours will be held at 2 p.m., with a service to follow, at the Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, on Monday, July 24, 2017. Interment will be private, at the discretion of the family.
