Petra Nell Walker Brannom, 82, of Baytown, Texas, was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, after several years of difficult health issues. She was born October 25, 1935, in Cedar Bayou, Texas to Wallace Theodore Walker and Jonnie Vee McDavid Walker.

Petra attended and graduated from Cedar Bayou schools, where she was involved in various organizations. These organizations included Band, in which she was a Drum Major, and Teen Reporter for the Baytown Sun. She excelled in Home Economics and received a Scholarship to Sam Houston State. After attending college for a year, she returned to Baytown and went to work for San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in the Business office. During this time, she met and married Dr. Dale B. Brannom and had two children. She later became a Certified Professional Secretary while working and raising her children as a single mother. She retired after 25 years in the Business office from Sears and Roebuck Co., and after a brief time, returned to the workforce, employed by Citizens Bank and San Jacinto Methodist Hospital, working two jobs to support herself. Petra was always determined to take care of herself and her family.

Her hobbies were sewing, baking, reading, music and getting out in her yard whenever possible.

Petra was preceded in death by her son, Michael, parents, Wallace T. Walker and Jonnie Vee Walker, and niece, Janet Butler. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Flavia and Gerald Bitterly, her sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Albert Butler, niece, Dr. Vickie Butler of Georgetown, TX and Sandy Fly of Georgetown, TX.

Petra and her sister, Pat, were best friends and next door neighbors for the majority of her lifetime, in which they could always depend on each other in any circumstance. Petra was a member of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church, and in earlier years, taught Sunday school, worked in Children’s Church and the church nursery.

Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home, Monday, March 19, 2018, beginning at 9:00a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 10:00a.m. with Dr. Mark Broussard officiating. Graveside services will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, Houston.
