Mrs. Calkins died on Saturday, May 1,2004 at her home.
She was born on June 19, 1920 in Oklahoma City, OK, the daughter of Dewitt D. &
Johnnie Mae Gaylor Durall. She had lived in Lawrence since September 1991 after
moving here from Mesa, AZ.
She was a homemaker and had formerly worked as a secretary for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS and Hughes Aircraft in Hawthorn, CA.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lawrence, KS and was a member of Christian Women's Fellowship at the church. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting & crafts.
Mrs. Calkins was married to E. Lee Calkins, Jr. on April 30, 1948 in Wichita, KS. He
preceded her in death on March 5, 1991.
Survivors include two daughters, Katie Studebaker of Lawrence, Carol Murray of
Wichita, KS, a son, Neal Calkins of Moses Lake, W A, twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. A son, John Calkins, preceded her in death in 1995.
The family will greet friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. The family
suggests memorials in her name to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association or to the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
