ACTIVE PTA WORKER DIES AT AGE OF 75

Mrs. Marie L. Pankhurst, 75, of 615 Michigan Ave., North Fond du Lac, died at 3 a.m. today at St. Agnes Hospital following an illness of a week.

She was born Jan. 24, 1895, at Amherst a daughter of Alexander and Amerlia Paschel Gladoske. She was married to Grant R. Pankhurst Sept. 30, 1915, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, North Fond du Lac.

She was graduated from North Fond du Lac High School, attended Stevens Point State University and taught in Fond du Lac County. Mr. Pankhurst was a Soo Line Railway engineer and they traveled extensively in the United States, Canada and Mexico. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1965.

Mrs. Pankhurst was also a member of St. Paul’ Lutheran Church and was the first president of their Christian Day School and Parent-Teacher Association. She was an officer of the Ladies Aid society.

She organized the North Fond du Lac Public School Parent-Teacher Association and in 1925 served as its first president and later as vice president and treasurer. She was a co-organizer of the North Fond du Lac High School Alumni Association and served as its treasurer and secretary for many years.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Wallace Johnson of the city; one son, Ray of Los Gatos, Calif.; five grandchildren and one great-grandson; one brother, Hans Glade of Arcadia, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Olsen of Bookfield and Mrs. Edward Winter of Milwaukee.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 21, 1968, and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bernard Kuschel officiating. Burial will be in Estabrooks Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Candlish Chapel from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and until 10 a.m. Tuesday when the body will be taken to the church.
