Robert L. Dentler

Dover, Robert "Bob" L. Dentler, 67, entered into rest at 12:13 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Linda M. (Gross) Dentler. The couple celebrated 44 years of marriage on May 12, 2017.

Born November 9, 1950 in Dover, Bob was a son of the late Charles E. and Ada C. (Holtzapple) Dentler.

He graduated from Dover High School in 1970. Bob was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the 8th Infantry Division in Germany. He worked as a diesel mechanic and had also been a truck driver over the years. Bob worked for R.L. Brandt Trucking and retired from Krapf Bus Company in Spring Grove. He also worked part-time for Quigley 4x4 in Manchester.

Bob was the current mayor of Dover Borough. As the mayor, he was police commissioner. He was a very active member of Union Fire & Hose, Co. #1, Dover and the current fire police captain. Bob was also a member of Shiloh American Legion Post 791 and West York VFW 8951. He was a former Dover Borough Councilman, member of the Dover Recreation Committee and a former member and president of the Dover Jaycees. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle.

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by a daughter, Amy Grim and husband, Joel of Dover; three sons, Leon Gross and wife, Michele of West York, Donald Pletz and wife, Sonya of Wellsville and Michael Dentler and wife, Katie of Dover; nine grandchildren, Lindsey Gross, Victoria and Adam Pletz, Hunter, Beau and Buck Dentler and Dakota, Brianna and Clayton Grim; a brother, Thomas Dentler (Sally) of Shiloh; a sister, Cathy Auman (Daryl) of Dover; and two sisters-in-law, Karen Dentler of Dover and Marina Hernandez of Leola. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James C. Dentler.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Bob's funeral at 1 p.m. and the viewing from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Emig Funeral Home, 47 N. Queen St., Dover. Burial will follow in Salem Union Cemetery, Dover where veteran's honors will be presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Officiating will be the Rev. Larry Carpenter, chaplain of Union Fire & Hose Co. #1.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Fire & Hose Co. #1, 30 E. Canal St., Dover, PA 17315.
