"Mrs. M.G. Witten, 85, died shortly after midnight last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.A. Goddykoontz, 1813 Dearborn Street, with whom she made her home. She had been in ill health for the past two or three years. Mrs. Witten was the widow of M.G. (Max) Witten, who operated the Altamont hotel for a number of years. She was a daughter of the late R.H. Bailey and Mrs. Emma Honaker Bailey of Rocky Gap, Va. Daughters who survive, in addition to Mrs. Goodykoontz, are Mrs. Arch Stern and Mrs. G.E. Stewart both of Camden, S.C. Surviving also are seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: R. Henry Bailey of Narrows, Va., E. Carl Bailey, former member of the Bluefield police department; J. Earle Bailey, Constable of Beaver Pond district; Mrs. W.E. Gibson, Henderson, Tenn.; Mrs. May Belle Mitchell, Bluefield; Charles S. Bailey, Cumberland Road, and J.A. Douglas Bailey, Justice of the Peace of Beaver Pond district. A brother, P.H. Bailey, died about three years ago. The body of Mrs. Witten was taken to the Mercer Funeral home."
